Private Albert Percy Doughty, my great uncle, was killed in the Second Battle of Krithia Gallipoli on the 8th of May 1915. He was ordered with thousands of his mates to run across an open field at 5pm on a sunny afternoon. Waiting for them were Turkish machine guns who slaughtered them. My uncle's body was never found. Albert's mother, Annie Doughty, would go each day to the pier in Port Melbourne to hopefully see if her son Albert was brought home, but that wasn't to be. Annie died nine years later with a broken heart. Lest We Forget
