William David 'Doc' Doughty was born on the 26th of May 1918. He was a apprentice jockey with Ernest Underwood, and then in 1939 World War Two broke out and William joined up along side his mates. He had five years of service with three and a half years of active service against the Italians, the Vichy French, the Germans and the Japanese. He died aged just 58 after many years of illness caused by a hard war. He was my dad and I loved him. I was only 21 when he died.
